How we can help
The Mental Health Tribunal is the Court which has the power to discharge and make recommendations for persons detained in hospital under a section of the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended.
The team provides representation at Tribunals for clients under all sections of the Mental Health Act. This includes those who have been brought into hospital from the community as well as those who have received Court Orders or have been transferred from prison. Clients contact us directly or we are contacted by friends and family on their behalf. In some circumstances, there is scope for family members to make applications to the Tribunal in their own right.
Funding for Tribunals is non means tested and we are therefore able to represent all clients free of charge under the Legal Aid scheme.
