Acquittal for Beth Vaughan
Beth Vaughan successfully represented our client at Reading Magistrates’ Court who was charged with allegations of Section 4 Public Order Act offence and shoplifting.
During the trial the Crown relied on evidence from the complainant and an eyewitness. Beth cross-examined both at length and was able to show inconsistencies between not only their accounts but the CCTV footage.
Our client gave clear and honest evidence that he was not abusive to the witnesses and despite taking the items from the shop without paying, he had attempted to pay and was refused. The defendant expressed his desire to pay for the items and therefore, was not dishonest when leaving the store without paying.
The Magistrates acquitted him of both accounts.
