Eligibility for Legal Aid depends upon your income, if you have any capital assets, if you are in receipt of certain qualifying state benefits. We are able to advise whether you are likely to be successful, and can support you through the application process. The criteria for legal Aid will vary in which area of law you are making the application.
Criminal Law Legal Aid Funding
Police Station Fees
You may be required to attend the police station for a voluntary interview or interviewed after arrest.
Representation is covered automatically under the legal aid fund, and so is free of charge.
Magistrates’ Court
Eligibility for legal aid depends upon the type of offence, and your income. We may need documentation to support your application for legal aid but will inform you what is required and complete the application for you.
Crown Court
The process for the Crown Court funding is the same for the Magistrates’ Court however depending on a persons finances you may be asked to make a contribution towards the costs. This is calculated by the legal aid agency.
If you are acquitted of all the offences you have been prosecuted for, you will be entitled to a full refund by the legal aid agency.
