Charlie Jones
Charlie joined the Prison Law department within the firm undertaking the role of Prison Law supervisor. Having obtained his undergraduate degree in law from Nottingham Trent University, he has practised within the areas of Prison Law and Criminal Law. Charlie is a Trainee Solicitor whilst completing his qualifications. His main focus within the firm is within our Prison Law department.
He has developed a strong and growing reputation for effective advocacy before the Parole Board. Charlie has secured release for prisoners serving life sentences, Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP), Extended Determinate Sentences and Standard Determinate Sentences, achieving positive outcomes both at the initial paper review stage and following contested oral hearings.
Charlie is particularly skilled at scrutinising and challenging unhelpful professional opinions, disputed risk assessments and unproven allegations. He combines thorough preparation with clear, focused advocacy, and is known for building relationships of trust with vulnerable clients, ensuring they feel heard and properly represented throughout the process.
In addition to release applications, Charlie has experience advising and advocating security categorisation and progression. He has assisted prisoners seeking downgrades from Category A status as well as those pursuing transfers to open conditions, navigating both Parole Board and internal Prison Service processes.
Charlie’s prison law practice is significantly enhanced by his background in criminal law. He qualified as an accredited police station representative in 2024 and has advised clients detained for the most serious offences, including murder, manslaughter, rape and other serious sexual offences. He has also worked as a Crown Court Caseworker across a broad range of serious matters.
Outside of work, Charlie is a keen reader and film enthusiast, with a particular appreciation for the films of Martin Scorsese. He also enjoys playing golf and spending time with his cat.
